About the Calculator
The Farm Carbon Calculator is an industry-leading tool that helps farmers measure their carbon footprint. Our user-friendly interface makes it easy to calculate both emissions and sequestration, from a comprehensive array of sources. Benchmarking and graphics help make your results accessible and understandable, providing valuable insights into your business.
The Calculator started back in 2009, and has been in continuous development ever since - so we’ve learned a lot about the importance and methodology of calculating carbon footprints. Originally created by farmers for farmers, we’re proud to still have the same ethos today - but with an array of world-class research behind us too.
As the science evolves, and carbon moves higher up the agenda, it’s never been more important for farmers and the food chain to calculate and manage their footprint. Our Calculator is designed to do exactly that, and is one of just three recommended by the NFU to its members.
Free for farmers
It's our mission to offer all farmers and growers free and impartial advice to help them reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and increase carbon sequestration. As an integral part of Farm Carbon Toolkit, we provide the Calculator free for individual farmers.

Future development
We’re excited that interest in the Farm Carbon Calculator is growing rapidly. This has been in response to various trends within agriculture, the wider marketplace and throughout society.
In response, we’re investing heavily into developing the Calculator. This includes building new features as requested by our users and increasing our connectivity with other software platforms, while continually refining our core methodologies and data sources, so that the Calculator stays best-in-class.
We are a Community Interest Company, largely self-funded from our advisory projects with 100% of the profits reinvested into the organisation. We are very grateful for the support provided by various funders and businesses on this journey - and most of all, the farmers who provide regular feedback to support the tool’s development. The calculator team
